New Technology Assignment

Social media’s popularity continues to rise. As time goes on, new technologies are being and have been developed that will help social media advance and continue to thrive. These new technologies are methods, systems, and devices which are the result of scientific knowledge being used for practical purposes. This new technology that has been and will be developed will change social media as we know it… Why? Because it already is. One new form of technology that I found is something that I believe will change Instagram and blogs alike. This new technology is something called the Starscope Monocular . This technology is a clip-on piece of binoculars that go onto any smart phone and seriously enhances the photo quality of any picture taken. It attaches easily with an adjustable piece that can fit to any phone regardless of its size. The Starscope Monocular is also able to adjust to any phone camera by putting the scope wherever the phone camera is. The Starscope Monocular doesn’t on...

Reflection on Social Media Case 12: United Breaks Guitars

Customer service is crucial. We can see this from the incident with United Airlines and the band “Sons of Maxwell” specifically their lead singer Dave Carroll. Dave and his band looked out the window and saw that their guitars were being mishandled and this sparked the whole customer service scandal. The band ended up trying filing a complaint but nothing was done on the end of United Airlines. This caused for the band to take matters into their own hands and create a video/song explaining their situation and their frustration with the airlines about how they handled everything. After posting the video United Airlines took a huge hit to their company value losing $23,000,000…. This was massive, so obviously United tried to make amends before the situation could get any worse. They offered a new guitar, tried making a positive spin on the video, and even tried making this video a part of their training to help lessen the effects of the song that was made about the company. The custo...

Reflection on Social Media Case 11: OK Go Gravity Song

OK Go went viral after their dance routine on treadmills and they have continued to wow people with their crazy and exciting music videos ever since. For one of their more recent music videos OK Go partnered with S7 Airlines in order to film their zero –g music video. The music video was new and exciting , and is even more exciting when you find out that they do all of their music videos with one single take. After making the video, the singing group had made it known that they were going to be sharing their new music with Facebook instead of with the normal media outlet of YouTube which they had been using previously. It was speculated that there was a lot of money being exchanged back and forth between Facebook and Alphabet (the owners of YouTube) to see which domain would be used to share this fun music video with the world. What ended up happening was interesting though, because the day before OK Go was planning on doing their big release of the music video to Facebook Video, S...

Reflection on Social Media Case 10: Miracle Mattress Twin Towers Sale

This commercial is baffling. I actually had to re-watch it about five times to actually believe that it was an actual legit commercial. I still can’t decide if these individuals thought that it had been enough time since 9/11 that they could use it in more of a comedic direction, or if they truly have no empathy for that horrible event. Either way, I honestly was appalled… especially at the end of the commercial to where the store manager said the words, “we will never forget.” Which is a common phrase said on the day of 9/11 to acknowledge the fact that 9/11 happened and that by never forgetting we also promise that we won’t let it happen again.             I’m not the only one that felt that this commercial was tasteless. So many news sources started reporting on this situation and their community also retaliated against them. One member of the community was qu...
